Moringa Oleifera
Moringa Oleifera, commonly called Moringa, is a medicinal plant that originates from northern India, specifically the Himalayan region. This tree is also renowned as “miracle tree” or “tree of life” thanks to its extensive medicinal benefits. Presently, Moringa trees are widely cultivated in Southeast Asia, including India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, the Americas, the Caribbean and Africa. 


Moringa oleifera is in the Moringaceae family and thrives in tropical and subtropical environments. This tree is said to grow quickly and is highly drought-resistant. The moringa tree can grow up to 10-15 metres tall and is deeply rooted. The bark of the tree is soft, smooth, and dark brown to yellowish. The leaves are generally 30 to 50cm long and are green in colour. The flower is yellowish-white and grows up to 2cm long year-round.


The fruits are called pods and they grow up to 90cm long. The tree's branches are typically disorganised, and the canopy is umbrella-shaped. The plant bears brown seeds, and each tree has the capacity to produce at least 25,000 seeds per year.

Moringa has been used to treat digestive problems such as bloating, constipation, indigestion and loss of appetite. Moreover, Moringa Oleifera can heal oedema or swelling in any parts of the body, headaches and dizziness.  Furthermore, Moringa is effective in managing arthritis, joint pains and inflammatory skin conditions. Apart from that, Moringa Oleifera helps regulate blood pressure, sugar level and cholesterol levels, which supports healthy heart function. Besides that, Moringa is also used to treat anaemic conditions.

1. Antioxidant properties
Research on Moringa leaves shows they contain a high level of antioxidant activity, exceeding that of Vitamin C, due to their higher polyphenolic content. Wow, wow..First of all a big thanks to the author for revealing all the nutritional benefits of moriga leaves. I have consumed these leaves without knowing its benefits. My mom had cooked these leaves but half-heartedly I consumed because it has no taste. After Corona I came to know of its value and consumed these leaves at least once a week.
