Rose Flower
Rosa, or as it is commonly called, rose, is a medicinal flower belonging to the Rosaceae family. Rose flower originates from Asia but is presently cultivated around the world in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Early records show cultivation began around 5000 years ago in China, where the flowers were grown in Imperial gardens and were referenced by Confucius.


Apart from that, the Romans also extensively grew roses for medicinal values, cosmetics, perfumery and ceremonial purposes. There are over 100 species of rose flowers around the world and most parts of the plant such as flowers, fruits, leaves, barks and roots can be used for medicinal purposes. Each plant part has different healing properties. Rose plants vary in size and form and they grow up to 7 metres in height. They have sharp prickles or thorns on the stems. The flowers have a range of different colours such as pink, red, orange, yellow and white. 




The Flower of Love and Beauty in Traditional Medicine
During ancient times, Rose flower has been utilized for various reasons such as for medicinal purposes, aromatherapy oil massage, perfumes and as decorations for ceremonies. Presently, not many people are aware of the healing properties of this beautiful flower.


Rose flower has been revered as a cooling, soothing and rejuvenating medicinal flower, making it ideal for eliminating excess heat in the body, alleviating emotional stress, reducing inflammation and improving heart health. Rose water can be used as a bath to reduce heat internally and externally and also to rinse the eyes to improve eyesight. 
Rose tea can be consumed as a heart tonic to calm the mind, alleviate stress, while promoting the natural feeling of love and compassion.


Moreover, rose flower can be used to treat indigestion, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux and poor appetite. A sweet preserve of rose petals and sugar is utilized to treat mouth ulcers. In addition to that, rose flower can help hydrate and nourish the skin, improve complexion, delay ageing and reduce redness and acne. Besides that, rose can also treat premenstrual syndrome, irregular menstruation and painful periods.

1. Reduce inflammation
Inflammation plays a key role in the development of many illnesses such as cancer, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and many more. According to several studies done on rose flower, it shows that this medicinal flower has protective effects against inflammation-related diseases such as allergic inflammation (hay fever, rhino sinusitis), lung inflammation (asthma, pneumonia, COPD) and skin inflammation (dermatitis, psoriasis).



2. Antioxidant properties

As a result, this medicinal flower can be a very valuable ingredient in food preservation, natural skincare and pharmaceutical products.

Naturally glowing skin is a sign of healthy skin and good skin health promotes positivity and increases confidence. Presently, most of us, especially women want to have glowing, beautiful and soft skin. I love roses, especially the red ones. When I have a red rose in my hand. I feel very calm and relaxed. When I was in primary school, my teacher always asked me to bring rose flowers. One day when I asked her the reason she told me for health reasons. My mom used to make rose tea and made me drink to relieve my period pain.
